Disney World...Did I hear Disney World?

Elias continues to show us his sense of humour. After having a rough last few days he showed a little of his personality and proving that he is our son! His nurse was asking about his teddy bear that is on his bedside. We were discussing Disney World and trips, etc when Elias suddenly opened his eyes and became very alert!! The timing was perfect and the nurse, who noticed it first said, "you heard about Disney huh, wanna make sure mom & dad know you heard them." We all got a good chuckle out of the event.

Other than the humorous anecdote, not a whole lot to update. Elias is back on the fentanyl to help keep him calm to recover more easily. There was less blood during suction today, which they believe was caused during the reintubation. As for the air around the lungs, there is a larger chest tube in place of the drainage tube out in place after his surgery. They are still not 100% certain what is causing the air pocket, but it does seem to be improving. One theory was that there is a small leak from one of the sutures on the fistula caused during the CPR/resuscitation efforts earlier this week.

One other event of note, Katharine did get to hold Elias (kind of) yesterday. His nurse was changing his sheets and asked her if she would like to lift him while she slid them under him. She enjoyed that very much even if she couldn't hold him close, yet. One day soon!! Overall, we are very happy that he has improved a little today. Like we said, this is a marathon and not a short walk. We rejoice memories like today, and accept those days may seem to be less than we hope. Elias is looking forward to meeting all of these wonderful family & friends that are sending angels & strength his way. For this he says THANK YOU!!
