Elias was extremely playful today and very awake. We had a wonderful day! Mommy read him two books and daddy sang to Elias and helped him "dance" with his arms and hands to the rhythm. He really seemed to like that. His eyes got so wide and you could just see a glimpse of what could be a grin showing through the tape. All in all it was a very nice day.
The occupational therapist also came by today, per a request from Elias' nurse. His arms and hands are a little too big for the splint on his right side. She was there to get a mold for a new one. While we were talking about the "plan" for him from an orthopedic standpoint, we began to notice that Elias holds the finger he had been tucking under almost like a "thumb." After some discussion we decided to not potentially work against what he is showing us. She was going to ask the resident to call for a consult from orthopedics to get their opinions on what might be beneficial. That was exciting to be able to start to address that issue even though it is in the very very early stages. We have been curious to discuss these options based on Elias' hand configuration, but it has been so far down the priority chain it hasn't even received much attention. So we hope to have some news about that in the next week or so.
Tomorrow should bring the great minds together to devise a plan for what to do about the intubation. We are anxious to see if we are going to have to "wait it out" or if any action might be taken to explore further. If we get some news we will give a mobile update from the hospital.
We got some video and some more photos today. I will work on getting those edited and posted, possibly tonight, but I'm not going to make a promise I can not keep. None the less we will have them up ASAP and it will give everyone something to look forward to.
Remember "There's a great big beautiful tomorrow, shining at the end of everyday. There's a great big beautiful tomorrow, and tomorrow's just a dream away...."
