Hi, I got to your blog off of the VACTERL yahoo support site. Your little boy is just beautiful! I know how difficult this time is for you. It is undescribable watching your child fight so hard every day for his life. I just want you to know that it will get easier. My son was also born with VACTERL and he spent the first 12 weeks in the hospital. He was only 4 lbs 5 oz at birth, he was 5 weeks early. Since birth he has had 2 open heart surgeries, 3 cardiac catheterizations, 4 other major surgeries and been hospitalized a total of 8 times. Knock on wood, the last hospitalization was in December 07. He is now just your typical almost 2 year old boy and you would never know by looking at him what he has gone through. We still have our feeding issues, but he is getting better. I want you to know that you are not alone and please, contact me to offer support. I know what you are going through. My son also developed cholythorax, he was on ECMO for 5 days, etc.. I will pray for little Elias and I hope you are able to take him home ASAP! Melissa Mom to Michael
