Hospital Update

Elias is starting to feel better and act like his normal, fun loving, playful self, which is a pleasant relief. He is still hospitalized however. The doctors consulted his pulmonologist today over the phone and she wants to evaluate Elias tomorrow herself. He is still slightly off baseline mainly with dehydration and a few respiratory issues. So far the cultures are negative for the common " bad infections" like RSV and similar. His white blood count still remains very elevated, but it did drop 1 point overnight. They will repeat labs tomorrow to see if there has been any progress. The Pulmonologist suggested that based on the phone conversation and the symptomology it is possible it is an aspiration flair-up. While we are not quite 100% on board with that as the only issue, she generally has a way of explaining things in a way that makes sense. If this is the case, we are going to ask that we move forward with the swallow test and gastric emptying scan we had planned to do out-patient while they have Elias. In other words let us try to nip it in the bud or find out we are all wrong and start over. We made the changes we did this week to prevent another hospitalization so quickly and ironically landed ourselves there. Elias is trying to tell us what is wrong and he is giving us the biggest piece of the puzzle yet. We want to swiftly add the rest of the pieces to get the picture and correct this chronic issue that is plaguing him.

  1. Score one for the home team! NO RSV! I know sitting in a hospital stinks but I am glad to hear that things are looking up and that Elias is feeling better!
