This morning they opted to just change the size of the intubation tube rather than extubation. The team determined that there was a small area of granulated tissue at the bottom of Elias' trachea, more than likely caused due to irritation by the tube. The smaller tube will allow that to heal before they try to extubate him again. This will be another week :( This was quite disappointing news.
Our family meeting is scheduled for Monday at 3pm with the Doctors and Specialists. We are hoping to get a chronological order of events, not necessarily a time line. We have no idea how much longer he will be in the NICU. We are trying to get a list of questions together to ask them during this time. We could really use everyone's help with this one. If you can think of any questions, please suggest them. You can leave it as a comment, email it, or put it on the Tag Board. We carry a pad with us and write thoughts down as we think of them, but at times it can be difficult. Sometimes a person from the outside can offer ideas and suggestions that may seem obvious, but we are neglecting to see for many reasons, mainly fatigue. We certainly appreciate your input to help compile this list.
