Testing The Theory

The last few updates and the last 10 days we have been discussing Elias seemingly getting sick every time there are certain weather patterns. Several people have come forth and shared some excellent points with us in regards to this and while we knew it could exist you just never expect it to effect a 15 month old the way it does and as drastically as it tends to. Tomorrow we are expecting one of the weather patterns in the forecast, strong thunderstorms throughout the day which means the pressure will be up and down through the day. So if all holds true to form Elias should not be feeling well and having somewhat of a bad day. So tomorrow will be interesting in terms of predicting his behavior.

He has been doing fairly well the last few days. Both Katharine and I have been fighting off our bodies attempting to get sick. It has hit me harder ( (as I have my own health issues) than Katharine, but she is feeling it as well. It is mostly just from being run down and tired. It is a typical response from over tired bodies, but we knew this was a possibility and a commitment we had to make in order for the move to be a reality. We had hoped the ability to gain access to nursing would not be as drawn out. We will get through it as always, but the bigger concern again goes back to the need for both of us to be working. So far the medical daycare options are not really good options for many reasons.  In fact many of the ones we have been pointed towards will not even accept Elias, he is too complicated even without the trach. I say this like there are tons around, but we referred to two different ones and I found a third on my own. So that option is not as viable as we thought just from an acceptance point of view let alone a cost issue.  Basically, this was a long winded way of saying we are doing all we can to keep ourselves well, not only so we can care for him, but to safeguard him from getting sick. 

Today has been a good day for Elias. We took a mini walk to the mailbox at the end of the driveway. Elias was watching a few bright yellow & black birds that were bouncing around the front yard. He was very intrigued by them and watched them intently. He smiled and laughed as they flew away. We went inside and it was about time for his hour rest from feeds, so I let him roll around for about 30 minutes. Then we attempted sitting in the bumbo, no dice. He wanted nothing to do with it. He did let me sit with him on the floor while he flipped through a book. Then the hour was up and it was time to reconnect to the feeding pump. He was not pleased about this.  That is until I put on a Dr. Seuss DVD. After that was over we packed up the feeding pump and went upstairs for some music time. Even though Elias can not hear it he can see the colors on the Windows Media Player. He gets excited when the music builds because the colors are more dynamic with more motion, which is what appeals to him. He only lasted about 15 minutes sitting on my lap and was uncomfortable. Despite trying to change positions he was just not in a good mood anymore so we tried to get little man to take a nap. That took several hours to accomplish but once he was out he was sound asleep.

Of course now that I think about it, we are testing a theory when we expect him to not have good day. The problem is we have a Physical Therapy assessment tomorrow morning. Hopefully he will not be too fussy and miserable for this, in fact it may help! Of course the best scenario would be for our theory to be proven wrong and Elias has a wonderful day. I guess only time will tell and we will have to wait and see.
